(semaglutide) injection
Weekly injection
Prescription options may be discussed with a licensed clinician following a medical assessment.
Wegovy is a brand-name version of the generic medication semaglutide, which is a type of medication called a glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist. Instead of that tongue-twister of a name, we call these medications “GLP-1s” for short.
Wegovy works by mimicking the hormone GLP-1, which slows digestion and helps your brain regulate appetite by reducing hunger sensations. As your digestion slows, you may feel full longer and therefore eat less, which can lead to weight loss.
We will work with you to determine if your insurance provider provides coverage for your GLP-1 medication, which is paid for separately from our weight loss program. If your insurance provider provides coverage, our Insurance Concierge Team will work with you and your insurance provider to provide the necessary documentation. If coverage is denied, we'll help you understand your options, including paying cash.

Selecting a GLP-1 that’s right for you depends on a few factors, including your health history and insurance coverage (if you’re using insurance).
Prescription options may be discussed with a licensed clinician following a medical assessment.

You'll inject the medication underneath the skin using an injection pen (a tiny needle - like a pinprick). You should inject into abdominal fat, thigh, or upper arm - ideally, you should rotate between these locations.
This is a painless and quick process, and we'll guide you through how to do this! Regardless of the dose, you'll only inject Wegovy once per week.
Injections should be administered on the same day each week. These can be done at any time of day, with or without food.

Your Medical Weight Loss team will walk you through the side effects patients report most often:
Nausea
Vomiting
Upset stomach
Stomach pains
Constipation
Diarrhea

What is Wegovy?
Wegovy is a brand-name version of the generic medication semaglutide, which is a type of medication called a glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist. Instead of that tongue-twister of a name, we call these medications “GLP-1s” for short.
How Does Wegovy Work?
Wegovy works by mimicking the hormone GLP-1, which slows digestion and helps your brain regulate appetite by reducing hunger sensations. As your digestion slows, you may feel full longer and therefore eat less, which can lead to weight loss.
How Do You Take Wegovy?
Wegovy comes in a prefilled injection pen. If prescribed, you (or someone in your household) will administer the injection under the skin of your stomach, thigh, or arm once a week. While a routine injection may sound intimidating, the Wegovy pen uses a tiny needle designed to minimize discomfort. You’ll also receive clear instructions on using the injection pen, and your Medical Weight Loss Team can offer additional advice.
Side Effects
